Learners graduate from youth development programme

16 March 2023

The City of Cape Town’s Social Development and Early Childhood Development Department hosted a graduation ceremony for 35 Bardale High School learners who successfully completed a youth development programme

On 16 and 17 February 2023, the 35 learners were taken through a course that covered a wide range of topics such as youth leadership roles and being a student leader, public speaking and communications skills.

The life skills portion of the workshop covered modules such as positive decision-making and the impact of bullying.

The workshops were run in partnership with the Provincial Education Department.

The  final project evaluation and certificate hand over took place yesterday, 15 March 2023 at Subcouncil 21 in Kuils River.

'I congratulate the learners who stepped up and grabbed this opportunity – I'm sure there are many benefits to be derived as you navigate the path to adulthood. This is but one of the many interventions around youth development and empowerment that the City's Social Development and Early Childhood Development Department facilitates every year and I also want to thank everyone involved in making this particular project a success. Many of our youth of today will become tomorrow's leaders and we should all work together to provide learners with opportunities,' said Councillor Patricia

Learners also had the opportunity to experience and observe a meeting of the Subcouncil.
